The Partial Hospitalization Program at The Refuge features structured support, superior clinical services, and personalized care. Our Partial Hospitalization Program promotes continued healing while preparing you for a successful transition out of treatment.

About Our Partial Hospitalization Program

If you’ve completed residential care but can benefit from continued support as you prepare to transition out of treatment, our PHP program may be perfect for you. In certain circumstances, you may be able to enter treatment with us at the PHP level. However, most clients complete our residential program before starting PHP.

PHP provides an ideal balance of comprehensive care and independent living. While you’re in PHP at The Refuge, you’ll participate in six hours of treatment each day, and you’ll continue to reside in one of our on-campus cabins. However, you’ll also have plenty of freedom and time for yourself, including the following:

  • Accompanied off-campus excursions
  • Use of cell phones during specified times in designated media rooms
  • Participation in off-campus 12-Step meetings

These opportunities allow you to experience a greater degree of personal freedom and responsibility while still having the support of a structured program.

Please note that these and other privileges are limited to non-treatment hours, and require your therapist’s approval.

What Happens During Our Partial Hospitalization Program

As noted in the previous section, a typical day in PHP includes six hours of clinical programming.

As is the case with all aspects of treatment at The Refuge, your progress in PHP will be guided by a personalized plan. Depending upon your needs, your plan may include the following elements:

  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Narrative exposure therapy (NET)
  • Trauma process group
  • Shame group
  • Self-empowerment group
  • Recovery group
  • Relapse prevention group
  • 12-Step group
  • Meditation

While you’re in PHP, you may also have the opportunity to schedule massage therapy sessions for an additional fee.

Why Choose Our Partial Hospitalization Program

If you’ve completed a residential program, PHP can be a vital bridge to the post-treatment phase of your recovery journey.

PHP allows you to build on the progress you made during residential treatment, and empowers you to practice your new skills in real-world situations. Best of all, you continue to receive focused, personalized support so that you can process any setbacks or challenges you experience.

If your admissions assessment determines that you don’t need the intensive nature of our residential program, PHP may be the perfect level at which to start treatment. PHP offers more structure and support than you can get via traditional outpatient services, while allowing you a significant degree of independence.
